Groups are one of our primary pathways to connect with others and grow in our faith. While it can be easy to either get lost or to hide in a large group, groups create an environment where we can know and be known and be encouraged and challenged as we seek to live in the way of Jesus.
At Saint John Vineyard, we have two brands of groups: community groups and growth groups.
A community group is a group that is intended to be a regular point of connection for people at the Vineyard. They are typically based around some sort of affinity and, therefore, are natural and informal ways to begin relationships with other people in our community.
Growth groups are communities of people that exist to help people connect and grow. They are for people who are looking to take the next step on their spiritual journey. Some examples of growth groups are: prayer groups, bible studies, recovery groups, and book studies. These groups are led by a facilitator and hosted in neighbourhoods throughout the city and surrounding areas.
A more specific kind of growth group is a DNA (Discipleship, Nurture, Accountability). These gatherings of 2 to 3 people meet regularly to talk, support and pray for one another. They don’t have a facilitator or curriculum and can take on many forms: some meet in coffee shops, restaurants, or parks, and others meet in homes. DNA’s are encouraged to use guided questions to help facilitate their journey together. All in all, these groups aspire to be a place for honest discussion and where people can be challenged and supported in their faith. Click here to download a DNA card.
