Baptism does not save us, nor does it wash us of our sins; rather it is a picture of Jesus' death, burial and resurrection and our death to sin and new life in Jesus. Just like a wedding ring is an outward symbol of marriage, baptism is a way for a person to go public with his or her commitment to follow Jesus.
